HOT 100: Me Porto Bonito

It's HOT 100 time again, and this song really is HOT! This week on Listenin' Too Closely, our hosts roll the dice on the Puerto Rican reggaetón hit, 'Me Porto Bonito' by Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone. Although not particularly excited by the music, Liam and Fletcher entertain themselves with talk of threesomes and birth control instead. Furthermore, we learn that Fletcher is a hard core junkie, and we discover just how many times Liam can say the word 'ass' in one episode. Worried? Well get listenin'!

Blackbird

It's the 40th episode of Listenin' Too Closely, and to celebrate, Liam and Fletcher have the grand idea to tackle a song by The Beatles! A beautiful one too, it's 'Blackbird', written and performed by Paul McCartney. Our hosts dive into great discussion, as Fletcher learns who George Martin (the fifth Beatle) is, and rants on about why he dislikes guitar tab. Not only that but Liam, as it turns out, has a closeted fascination with birds... Intrigued? Well get listenin'!

Forever Tuesday Morning

Scramble the jets! This week Fletcher and Liam are revelling in some kiwiana as they explore the 1980s hit "Forever Tuesday Morning", which, as it turns out, is by The Mockers, and not anyone else. Liam plays Beat the Clock to remember the lead singer's name before the episode is over. And Fletcher beats his dictionary to look up every word he's ever wanted to know the meaning of. Rasputin

Oh no! It's a song about a Russian guy? At a time like this? You're damn right it is. Somehow, Liam and Fletcher accidentally chose to break down the brilliant eurodisco tune 'Rasputin', by Boney M. It's an odd song for sure, but based on a real person and real life events! This episode takes you on a big ol' history lesson, and also includes Liam teaching Fletcher 70's slang, a blatant advertisement for Vanilla Coca Cola, and a brand new conspiracy theory to ponder...

SPECIAL EPISODE: Eurovision 2022

It's time for another SPECIAL EPISODE, and this time it's devoted to 2022's Eurovision Song Contest. Admittedly, Liam and Fletcher knew absolutely nothing about Eurovision and did spend a large portion of the episode trying to understand how it works - particularly it's complicated voting system. Hang in there though, because eventually our hosts randomly select a Eurovision contestant, and break their song apart in the usual Listenin' Too Closely style. Furthermore, you'll learn all about Liam and Fletcher's latest conspiracies, including the 'Eurovision Adjusted Pitch Conspiracy' and the 'Ukrainian Pity Vote Theory'. Interested? SHAMELESS PLUG: Everything To Me

SHAMELESS PLUG is a brand new Listenin' Too Closely segment, where our hosts select one of their very own original songs and break down not only the music and lyrics, but the story and/or writing experience behind them. To kick it off, and in honor of Fletcher's late and beloved cat, Sushi, they've chosen to talk about 'Everything To Me', written by Fletcher Oxford when he was 11 years old, and performed on New Zealand's Got Talent. You'll also hear all about Fletcher's HUGE capo, and that one time that Liam had a woody on stage. Curious? Well get listenin'!

HOT 100: Big Energy

Do you have big dick energy? Well this is the episode for you! In another HOT 100 segment, Liam and Fletcher have their first listen to the song, 'Big Energy' by Latto, and in the process lose whatever shred of innocence they had left. This week on Listenin' Too Closely, our hosts talk at great length about the 'Panic! at the Disco' banger, 'Roaring 20's'. Plenty of new and interesting tangents are explored, including an in depth discussion about vocal health, and Fletcher's proud description of the writing convention named 'intertextualization'. More amusingly, our hosts discuss Brendon Urie's sex appeal and how they can get their hands on a pair of his soiled leather pants, and Listenin' Too Closely gets its first ever reply to a tweet! HAVE YOU HEARD: Danny Don’t You Know

Attention fellow nerds: if you've ever felt like you don't fit in anywhere, then we have a song for you! It's Ninja Sex Party's feel-good anthem, Danny, Don't You Know. Not only is the song a good laugh with a great message, it's also exceedingly well-written, as Liam and Fletcher will painstakingly explain. Other topics of conversation include the origin of the Picardy Third, and whether you should "perform" when you're singing live. We're looking at you, Chris Rea. Don't think we don't notice you standing in the corner. For God's sake, move about a bit! Anyway, it's time to get listenin'!

Flower Duet (Aria)

Are you an opera fan? Too bad, we're doing an opera song anyway! This opera song, or "aria" if you're pretentious, is the Flower Duet from Leo Delibes' 1890s triumph, Lakmé. Join Fletcher and Liam as they reveal how little they know about the genre whilst still appreciating it. Did they get that Twitter reply from John Mayer they so desperately wanted? Spoiler: NOT YET!
